Operations & product consulting

Grow the business.
Not the workload.

I work with owner-led companies where too much still runs on manual work and one person's memory. I find what's quietly costing you the most time and money, then build the thing that takes it off your plate.

What I help with

The friction that shows up once you're growing

Each of these starts the same way: you grew faster than the process you built early on.

Everything routes through you

Every approval and every exception lands on your desk. Nothing moves faster than you can get to it.

The work lives in spreadsheets

Someone on your team retypes the same information into a second system every week. It works until volume doubles, and by then it costs hours and the errors are already in your numbers.

The process is in someone's head

One person knows how it actually gets done and nobody has written it down. New hires take months to get up to speed, and a vacation turns into a risk.

You've bought tools that didn't help

You bought the software, or hired the person, and the bottleneck sat exactly where it was. You're still paying for both.

Services

Ways to work together

These are separate engagements, not a bundle. The review is the natural starting point, but you can hire me for any one of them on its own.

  • Operations review

I map how one part of your business actually runs, then hand you what it's costing you, ranked by what I'd fix first.

  • Automation build

I replace a manual process inside the tools you already pay for, then show your team how to run it without me.

  • Custom internal tool

I build one small tool that removes a manual step, like a dashboard that replaces your weekly report, and you own it outright.

  • Ongoing partner

You get a set amount of my time each month to keep what I built running and to work on whatever bottleneck comes next.

Plenty of problems get solved without a build: a process to document and roll out, a piece of research, a design, or materials your team needs to do the work. If that's what yours calls for and it's in reach, I'll take it on. If it's outside what I do, I'll tell you who to call.

How I work

Diagnosis first, always

I'm one person, and I'd rather be right than busy.

  • I learn how it really works firstPeople always work around the official process somewhere, and that workaround is the thing I go looking for.
  • You pick from real optionsSometimes the fix is software, sometimes a process change or a tool you already pay for. You see the trade-offs before anything gets built.
  • Then I build itI build it myself, with AI-assisted tooling doing the heavy lifting, so one person delivers on a timeline that used to need a team.
  • Fixed scope, fixed fee, and you own itYou know the price before we start, and everything I build is yours, documented well enough to run without me.

If the review says you don't need what I'd sell you next, that's what I'll tell you.

About

Adam Di Tota

I've spent ten-plus years as a product manager at B2B software companies, most recently as a staff product manager and before that as a director of product. A good chunk of it was at SurveyMonkey, on the research, workflow, and data products other companies ran their work on.

Before product I was a designer and developer: branding, print, video, websites, UX. I never fully put that down, which is why the recommendation and the build come from the same person.

The part I actually like is the first week. Sitting with the people doing the work, watching where they sigh, finding the spreadsheet nobody admits to. Almost every time, the real problem sits one step upstream of the one I was told about.

I started Fathom because small companies hit that constantly and have almost no way to hire for it. If that sounds like yours, I'd like to hear about it.

Questions

Before you get in touch

How is this different from hiring a contractor?

A contractor builds what you point them at. That's useful when you already know the right thing to build, and expensive when you don't, because you pay for the build and then again for the correction. I spend the first stretch working out what's actually worth doing, and only then build it.

How is it different from hiring a consultant?

Most consulting ends at the recommendation. You get a diagnosis and then have to go find someone to execute it, and most owners never get around to that second part. I do both halves, so what gets built is the thing the diagnosis actually called for.

Do you use AI to do the work?

Yes, and I'd rather say so plainly. AI does the fast work: research, first drafts, and a good share of the code behind a build. I still make every call myself, and I test everything before it touches your business. You're paying for the judgement about what to build. AI is what makes one person enough to build it.

What if the answer is that I don't need you?

Then I say so. Once in a while the fix is small enough that you can do it yourself in an afternoon. You'd still have the map of where your time and money are going, which is the hard part to get on your own.

Do you have case studies?

Not yet. Fathom is new. That's why I start with a short review: you get to judge the work on something real before committing to anything bigger.

What size of business is this for?

You're past the scrappy stage and manual process is capping your growth, but you're not big enough yet to justify a full-time operations or product hire. If that's the gap you're in, this is built for you.

What's the first step?

A short call. You describe what's slowing you down, and we work out whether there's something worth scoping. No pitch, no obligation.
